How to Fix Teams and Outlook on Windows 11 ARM PCs

Microsoft has confirmed a Windows 11 ARM issue that can stop Teams and new Outlook from launching. Here is the Store-based workaround and what to do if it fails.

How to Fix Teams and Outlook on Windows 11 ARM PCs

If Microsoft Teams or the new Outlook suddenly refuses to open on a Windows 11 ARM PC, the problem may not be the apps themselves. Microsoft confirmed in September that Windows security updates released from August 11, 2026 can cause both apps to fail to launch or close unexpectedly on ARM-based computers, particularly new or freshly imaged machines. The good news is that Microsoft has published a specific workaround involving a Microsoft Store component, so you do not need to start by reinstalling Windows or rolling back the security update.

Why Teams and Outlook can stop opening after a Windows update

The problem is tied to Windows 11 updates released on or after August 11, 2026. On Windows 11 version 24H2 and 25H2, Microsoft identifies KB5121003 as the originating update, while Windows 11 version 26H1 lists KB5121000. ARM-based devices use processors built around the Arm architecture rather than the traditional x86 architecture, and Microsoft specifically lists devices such as the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 among affected examples. The failure can appear as an app that never opens or one that starts and then closes immediately.Ā

The problem is also unusually specific. Microsoft says classic Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications are not known to be affected, which means a computer can otherwise appear healthy while Teams and the new Outlook fail. Microsoft says the issue is most likely on new or freshly imaged PCs that have not yet installed Microsoft Store updates. That detail matters because it points toward a missing Store component rather than general Windows system corruption.Ā

Check whether your Windows version is affected

Before changing anything, check which Windows 11 version and build your ARM PC is running. Open Settings, select System, choose About, and look under Windows specifications for the version and OS build. You can also press Win + R, type winver, and press Enter to display the Windows version information. If you are running Windows 11 24H2, 25H2 or 26H1 on ARM hardware and the Teams or new Outlook failure began after the August security updates, the Microsoft-documented issue is a strong match.Ā

Update the Microsoft Store before reinstalling Teams

The first fix to try is surprisingly simple: update Microsoft Store components. Open Microsoft Store from the Start menu, select Downloads, then choose Check for updates. Let the Store finish checking and installing available updates rather than stopping after the first application update appears. Microsoft specifically recommends installing the latest Auto Super Resolution Package, with version 1.0.19.0 or later, as the workaround for this Windows 11 ARM problem.Ā

Auto Super Resolution is a Windows component associated with automatically improving the appearance of supported games by using artificial intelligence-based upscaling. That makes its connection to Teams and Outlook seem strange at first, but the important point is not what the component normally does; Microsoft has identified updating it through the Store as the current workaround for this application-launch problem. You do not need to manually download a separate package from an unfamiliar website. Use the Microsoft Store update mechanism and allow it to install the current version available for your machine.Ā

Restart Windows and test both applications

After the Store finishes installing updates, restart Windows rather than immediately assuming the fix failed. A restart gives Windows and the updated Store components a clean opportunity to load their new versions. Once you are back at the desktop, open Microsoft Teams first and then launch the new Outlook. If both applications stay open normally, the Store update has addressed the failure and there is no reason to start removing Windows updates.

What to do if the Store update does not appear

If Auto Super Resolution Package does not appear when you select Check for updates, let the Store complete its entire update check and then restart the PC. This is particularly relevant to a newly configured or freshly reset computer because Microsoft says the problem is most likely on systems that have not yet received Microsoft Store updates. After restarting, open Microsoft Store again and check for updates once more. If the package still does not appear and Teams or new Outlook continues to fail, record your Windows version, OS build and the installed August update before trying more disruptive repairs.Ā

Do not confuse the workaround with a permanent Windows fix

Microsoft's release-health documentation currently describes the issue as mitigated, meaning the published workaround reduces or resolves the problem for affected systems. That is different from saying that the underlying Windows update has been permanently fixed. Microsoft says it is still working toward a resolution in a future Windows update, while the current guidance remains to update the Auto Super Resolution Package through Microsoft Store.Ā

This distinction also explains why uninstalling a Windows security update should not be your first response. Community reports from ARM users describe rolling back the relevant update as a way to restore Teams and new Outlook, but Microsoft's current documented workaround is less disruptive because it keeps the Windows security update installed. Independent reporting has also confirmed that the Store-based workaround is Microsoft's recommended path.Ā

When the problem needs deeper troubleshooting

If Teams and new Outlook remain broken after the Store update, first check whether other applications are also failing. If Word, Excel and classic Outlook work normally while only Teams and new Outlook fail, you are still seeing the same pattern Microsoft describes. If many unrelated applications are crashing, however, the cause may be different and repairing Windows components or investigating another update may make more sense. Avoid randomly deleting application folders or repeatedly reinstalling programs before establishing whether the Windows ARM issue actually matches your symptoms.

The quickest fix to remember

For an affected Windows 11 ARM PC, the shortest path is to open Microsoft Store, go to Downloads, select Check for updates, and install the Auto Super Resolution Package version 1.0.19.0 or later. Restart Windows and test Teams and the new Outlook again. The workaround applies to the Microsoft-documented launch problem associated with recent Windows security updates, not every possible Teams or Outlook failure. If Microsoft replaces the workaround with a permanent Windows update, that later release should take priority over these temporary steps.Ā
